IIT-Study 2018 / Suction Blistering

Explorative randomized controlled clinical trial to investigate the effectiveness of a basis skin care product on strengthening of the dermo-epidermal adhesion.

With maturing age the human body passes through different ageing processes. The skin is also affected by this. Given different structural changes this leads to an age-related weakening of the skin. The skin turns more vulnerable for injuries and development of skin diseases. The increased risk of skin injuries might be related to the fact that upper and lower skin are less interlinked with another.

In this study it is investigated, whether the regular application of an oinment increases the strength of the skin.

Evidence based skin care at the Charité - Skin Care Alogarithm

Hundreds of patient receive intense care at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin on a daily basis. Common practices include washing, bathing, showering with or without cleansing products, and application of leave-on products such as lotions creams or ointments. Skin care activities are integral parts of nursing practice. Especially patients who are critically and chronically ill and those with immobility or incontinence are at risk for developing a broad range of adverse skin conditions. Nevertheless, little is known about benefits or clinical efficacy of daily routine skin care.

Based on this situation the present project developed. The aim of the project was to determine the status quo of skin care practice at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and develop a skin care algorithm to provide guidance for practitioners and to improve basic skin care in clinical settings
in order to maintain or increase skin health.

The project plan was submitted to the Charité Foundationin 2013 for the yearly tendered Max-Rubner-Grant and won.

The skin care standard in form of a skin care alogarythm was officially implemented at the Charité in 2018.
